A Farewell Image

This image, my good friends, is the very last photo my poor Todd ( Nikon D100) ever took. How very sad... I should print and frame it as a sort of memorial to my long time friend. (pausing for a moment of silence)

Tomorrow (Saturday) I return to the very location in which this image was taken to shoot yet another wedding. With a bit of luck nothing major will happen this go around. The location being the Grandview on Lookout Mtn., which if you've never seen it, it's truly a beautiful place. You would think with such a great looking place the pictures would be a snap. Ironically it's one of the hardest places to shoot though. It's on a very steep hill, the view is great but then there is a backlighting issue when shooting your subject, the house is great but every room has a difference type of light source. Sessions take 2x as long as you have to allow for the time to change your lighting white balance, and add fill flash or take it away or use reflectors while trying to exposure properly and take the picture.

Renting the Grandview as a venue for your wedding or party is not to be taken lightly mind you. A Saturday rental for a few hours of time rents for just at $2000.00 and $150.00 per every half hour if you go over your lotted time. Of course that doesn't include tables, chairs, staff, food or drinks, which all have to be provided on site. I really believe I should forget about this photography stuff, get me a pretty location, hire a landscaper and start renting it out for weddings and the like. Maybe have a lake on site, a few rose gardens, some water fountains, statues, pathways, etc... Take about a cash cow!

I know what you're thinking, where can I invest in such a brilliant idea? Well, my good friends, just log onto your online paypal account and lets get the cash flowing my way!

Piggy Pooh & a side of Turbo

Yesterday I chased pigs all over the yard trying to get a photo without motion blur. You know, I never realized pigs could move so fast! They could register on a track at nascar!

I also took photos of stuff that needs to be sold on eBay, it's amazing the junk you collect when you're not noticing. I'd say out of everything that needs to be photographed, I took maybe 2% of them. Basically the whole house needs to be auctioned away. I'll be listing some 'rock tators' if anyone is interested. They are rocks, but they look exactly like potatos. Maybe I'll list em for a few million and cash in... don't worry, if I get big money, I won't forget ya'll... I vow to buy a jumbo pack of the finest gum for the whole 4 people that read this blog!

Modeling is such hard work!

I'm steadily going through and editing the photos from a recent portrait session. Normally they would've been finished a few days after I took them, but with the whole stolen camera bag mess I just having been myself lately. I was going through them and came across this one. At the time we were trying to amuse this poor boy with bubbles, which are fun for awhile, but lets face it... they're bubbles. Plus when you factor in that there were 3 people trying to get this kid to smile, look this way and that way, go here, go there, etc etc, I guess it can be a little stressful, even if you're two!

For the most part I think we were boring him, and from some of the looks he gave me I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm the major of crazy town. A lady 3 times as tall as you with a camera glued to her face, making strange noise and ever so often, popping out to yell 'boo' would have to look a tad odd, especial from his level of site plus the fact that he'd never seen me before that day. He did get a tiny bit exciting at the water fountains and at the fire truck. The fire truck was one of the last things we used, we'd already been shooting for a good hour or so, and that was the first time he actually looked at me, said 'cheese' and smiled, all at the same time.

I always said I'd never be one of those stuffy photographers who try to get kids to smile there heads off while you're jingling your keys at them but after this photo session experience, I think I'm getting closer to becoming just that. Usual my photo subjects are adults who are abour to get married, sometimes I have a kid around 7 or 8, or a baby, who cant yet wonder off on there own. Chase here was two years old and I must say, a lot of work went into the simplest of things to get his picture. I've got to invest in some toys or a traveling sideshow the next time I have to shoot someone so young!

Blue Pools & a Mess

I had such great intentions of getting up early this morning to go with my niece Kendra to play some tennis at the LaFayette Rec Center. Neither of us managed to get out of bed earlier enough to get over there before it got hot enough to boil our brains. I haven't played tennis in years, I wasn't much good at it then, and I was in shape, I can only imagine how horrible I'd be now. Prolly look like a whale flapping for water...

This photo is my nephew Logan, who will be 1 yr old this coming Nov. His eyes are so blue, like a big pool of water. I was attempting to get some shots of him smiling with his mouth open to get a look at his little teeth, no such luck though. He seems to like the camera a lot, he tried to give it kisses, then he was posing like he'd done this before... could have a career in modeling!

Today was spent backing up some digital files, working on the photos from the portrait shoot I did last week, trying to find the floor of my bedroom through the mess, making piles of stuff for eBay, and playing ball outside.

All in all, some good times...

Shrimp Salad plus a dash of Gump

Today I made a lovely salad, as you can see of this wonderful photograph. (Pause for laughter) It's a good thing I'm not a food photographer, I'd never make any money, not that I do now but that's beside the point. Anyway, about my salad, made with spring mix greens, snow peas, carrots & broccoli, grilled shrimp I cooked myself, Parmesan cheese, and Cheddar. All lighted heated for a few mins then mixed with a small dab of country French dressing and served with toasted bread.

Once I finished fixing it I was tired of the idea of having a salad but about that time my niece Kendra came along and ate some and talked about how good it was... I tried some and it wasn't as good as she let on but I think I should get an 'A' for effort anyway! :o)

I worked out today, not the usual 90 mins I've been doing, due to a nagging leg injury. Im not sure what I've done to it, all I know is it hurts on the right side of my right leg and the left side of my foot. I hurt it while running the other day and it's been bugging me ever since. I've iced it everyday since I hurt it but I can't tell as it's helping. So, if you're a doctor and would like to donate a reasoning I'm all ears.

On a 'Lazy' report, I got up early this morning with great intentions of finishing the photos from the portrait shoot I had last week, I had just turned on my computer when my sister called and I ended up baby sitting instead. While I was doing that though, I did get some cute pictures of my nephew Logan. He's been completely ignored by the camera since his arrival. With my niece, Summer, I took pictures of her all the time when she was a baby, now I'm kinda over the idea, meaning poor Logan never has any taken of him. I really need to suck it up and take more of him, after all, his whole childhood has gone by with no proof of it.

Princess Summer, of Far Far Away

Sunday was a lazy day, I did a bunch of nothing really. Printed some stuff, organized some CD Data files, took a quick look at things I need to be listing on eBay, and watched Smokey & the Bandit and then I watched the Yearling. I just love Gregory Peck! My all time favorite movie is Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. If you've never seen it, you really should! Audrey Hepburn plays a princess who decides she's had enough of shaking hands and going to balls. She sneaks out of the castle where she meets Gregory Peck's character. He plays a reporter who befriends her to get an exclusive story. He calls on his friend Irvin, who is a professional photographer, to get all sorts of great candid shots of her when she least expects it. A classic movie with a photographer... gotta love it!

My niece Summer got a brand spanking new princess dress, she already owned the crown and shoes... of course. The dress, even though you can't see it here because it's not dark, has lights in the bottom fru-fru part. She totally looks the part and she's enough of a Madonna to pass as an official royal.

Fall !

This weekend was fun! My friend Rachel and I got up early this morning to go to yard sales, both hoping to find some great stuff for eBay. Neither of us had any luck, although we did walk up to a table just as a lady was buying 2 Ben Hampton signed & numbered painting valued at $300-600 each for $4.00 for both... figures! We followed pink signs all over the tristate area, from LaFayette to Rock Springs to Chickamauga to Ft. O to Ringgold to Chattanooga and beyond. Rachel bought a 1941 book for $0.25 and some sort of sun shaped candle holder for her mom, and I got my nephew, Logan, a pair of overalls for $0.25 and a old antique 6 ft tall tin cabinet for $5 bucks! I'm going to clean it up tomorrow, I'll take a picture for you. :o)

We stopped by the Rock Springs Show & Sell while we were in the area and walked around looking. We were going to put up a booth and sell our photos but of course we're both too lazy to get motivated to do it, not to mention that we're poor as all get out. For those who don't know, I use to be the staff photographer for the Walker County Messenger. While I worked there I took some photos at the Show & Sell, one or two years, I can't remember, anyway, most of the same craft seller come back again every year. Some of them I photographed while I worked for the paper and apparently they remembered me. The thought of that didnt even cross my mind, I took my camera with me while I walked around, looking for blog photos, and let me tell you, I got my head talked clear off my shoulders, reattached by a quilter and talked off again. I always feel bad when that happens, when I worked for the paper, I most likely took photos of a few thousand people all over Walker County and some in Catoosa. After awhile everyone blends and you forgot who is who and why you took there pictures. You hate to ask because it sounds snobby, and anyone who knows me knows that I have the WORST memory of all time. Anyway, Rachel, of course, was NO HELP AT ALL, she just walked off and left me with these people. I'm not complaining, I had a good time shooting for the paper, usually, I just wish people would identify themselves. :o) It's just tough being a celebrity...

Feet Streaks and Slow Turtles

DSC_0026, originally uploaded by knledford.

Today I got nothing done. I didn't even begin to try to make an effort on the prints for the Chattanooga Nature Center,I didn't call any insurance companies, I didn't go to the doctor but I'm wishing I had.

Maybe the only thing I hate worse that an ear infection is maybe the flu. I had pink eye once, I hated that about as much as you can hate, but I think an ear infection is even worse.

I did workout today, only once, but it was a 90 min workout. I really didn't want to but I made myself, and about 20 mins into it I was glad that I had. I really enjoy it once I get started. Last week I was really excited about the thought of starting my daily workout but as you know I've been pretty bummed.

Tomorrow I am determined to do better with all the things I need to do. I have got to go to the doctor, I have got to find camera insurance, I have got to get the portraits from the little boys session finished and get started on making him a book. I need to take pictures of stuff for eBay and get it listed, I've got mountains of junk that I'm sure someone out there would love to have. Seeing that I have bills to pay and new camera equipment to buy I should most likely get busy on that, huh.

Well, we'll see what tomorrow brings, I posted my good intentions here so maybe the stress of having to post a disappointment will hold me to my promises...

Constant Ringing & a Fat Lip

Greetings from the center of hell... wonderful of you to stop by and visit.

Yesterday a detective working on my theft case called to let me know he was correctly working on tracking the IP Address. I was rather shocked to hear from him as I didn't expect anything to come from my "report" I gave to the officer on Monday. He told me that there may be puddin' in the salad though, because the internet service provider that was linked to the IP Address, Comcast, used a pool IP, as in a user may only use a certain IP Address for a few days before it's thrown back in the pool and given to another user. I had high hopes from that too! A small part of me is still hoping something comes of this, the other, larger part of me is yelling from across the hall, "Shut up stupid and face the facts, your bag is long gone."

I have to say, not just my wallet is suffering from this whole situation, as you can imagine, I've been down in the dumps since Saturday. I missed my workout Sunday, only did 30 mins on Monday, managed to get a full workout Tuesday and skipped it on Wednesday. I'm hell bent and determined that I will not give up though. I feel like crap, I have 0% motivation, but I'm going to force myself to pull through it and out of it. In the morning I'm going to do a full workout to make up for the one I missed on Wednesday and also my normal evening workout to cover Thursday.

Thursday & Friday I'm going to play phone tag with insurance companies until I find one who handles equipment insurance that a person can afford. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm terrified that the only working camera I own and the one lens I have left will spontaneously explode. I'm scared to leave the house with it, but I'm horrified by the thought of leaving it home incase the house explodes. I use to have equipment insurance with State Farm, I contacted them Monday and they said they no longer did that, but I could take out business insurance with a premium 3 times as high as the equipment insurance and a deductible of $1000.00, unlike the $100.00 deductible I had before.

To add some more sunshine to my days, I found out Tuesday that my operating system on my laptop had a virus. I did successfully get rid of it but not before it corrupted all my software files and did a good number on my harddrive. I went to my good ole buddy Rachel's house today, armed with pizza. She was nice enough to fix it for me by restoring it back to it's factory configuration. In order to do that one must have the system disks that came with the laptop, which I, of course, left at home. A 20 min drive, one way, to my house to get them and back, 4 hrs or so later it was fixed and as good as new. Watching her do her magic voodoo, I realized I know nothing about computers. Thanks Ray-Ray

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I wait until the last minute to do anything, I always have and most likely, always will. I signed up to show two of my framed and matted photos at the Chattanooga Nature Center Art Show months ago. I haven't done one thing to get ready for it thus far and I have to deliver them to the center TOMORROW! My hearts not really in it but I'm going to give it an effort in the morning and see what comes of it. The motivation for getting these finished would be that the prints are offered for sale at the show, anyone who reads this knows I'm ready to start collecting cans from the highway, so selling a print would be beyond fantastic.. in fact you should all go take a look and buy them both to grace your living room walls!

The reasoning for the title of this post, "Constant Ringing & a Fat Lip" comes from my 3 1/2 week long ear infection and a odd, painful spider bite I have just under my lip that I woke up with yesterday. First, my ear infection which just doesn't want to go away. I took medicine for it until it was 1/2 way gone, and of course the other 1/2 was in my camera bag, so I managed to get my hands on some more. It doesn't appear to be helping because it seems to be getting worse instead of better. It's been stopped up since Saturday and a constant ringing, which I can not get to go away has been with me since Saturday night. I'm going to give it another 24 hours and if I see no change for the better I guess I'll be going back to the doctor. While I'm there I suppose I should get the spider bite under my bottom lip checked out. I noticed it there Monday evening, I'm 99% sure I got it from the spider web I walked through on the steps of the Church while I was giving my statement to the police officer Monday. Tuesday morning when I woke up, my bottom lip was swollen to twice it's normal size and hurt like you couldn't believe. The swelling had gone down by Tuesday night but the bite is still clearly visible and still hurts to touch. Tuesday also brought a virus of some sorts, or maybe it was the spider's poison making me sick, so I was pretty under the weather all day and most of the night. Apparently someone is trying to kill me from the looks of it all. I'd have to say they're doing a pretty good job, I'm not too sure how much more I can take.

If you wonder why the photo of Linus, I've done nothing but whine and complain since last Sunday, I found it rather suiting, wouldn't you say? :o)

Shits & Giggles

Yesterday turned out to be rather interesting. I called the Rome police department to get information about how to go about filing a report for my stolen camera bag. I was excepting to go down to the station and talk to someone at a desk, you know, like real cops on TV. Well, I spoke to a lady at the RCPD and she told me I would have to drive into the city limits of Rome and call 911. Now, for some crazy reason I always thought you only called 911 for a true emergency, like getting shot or a wreak or reporting a murder like some crazy lady that was pushed over the edge of sanity when her camera bag was stolen, finally snapping and beating the first person to walk by her with a wooden duck, kind of avocado green color with a lovely yellow bow tie....

My friend Rachel, who has been very supportive in this, my hour of need (thanks ray-ray) agreed to ride to Rome with me as a sort of moral support. On a four lane highway in Trion, Georgia, just north of Rome, we roll up behind a large truck, a sort of mid-sized tractor/trailer. Rachel and I were talking, and like passengers do, she was gazing out of the windows, taking in the sites around us. The truck in front of us decided to merge over into the slow lane. ( for those who don't know, it's the Right lane, try and drive in it more often!) Being in the drivers seat I saw the view in front of the merging truck long before Rachel did, the view was a wreaker truck towing a dumptruck. The dumptruck was turned to face in the backward position, showing it's headlights to the cars behind him. My friend Rachel(who is a crazy Looney, but we love her anyway) was looking in another direction out of her passenger side window while the truck that was in front of us was merging over into the other lane. She apparently turned her head back to see the road and the right wrong time, she lets out the saddest scream I've ever heard, she does this because she thinks that the dumbtruck is driving towards us and that the truck had merged to miss it, therefore making us a head on target. The scream, wasn't a scream you'd expect from a woman who thinks she's about to be killed by a 3 ton dumptruck, it was more a scream you'd expect from a person who's just been given wooden spoons with a $0.99 cent price tag as a graduation gift. What would that sound like you ask? Well you know good and well in your head that you've made that scream over something before, it may not have been wooden spoons, but you have horrors in your past, just admit it! The scream I'm talking about has a sort of low pitched beginning, a small raise somewhere in the middle, followed by a few seconds of vocal pity. If Hollywood ever remakes the move "Speed" and includes another bomb on a bus plot, Rachel is not the person to hire as an extra on the bus! A pitiful display, no doubt, but funny as all get out!!!! I laughed a good 3 miles, then would rethink it in my head and laugh again. I, unlike her, had the pleasure of being lucky enough to be looking at her face at the very moment she attempted to be terrified. It was a priceless moment, something not even I can put in words. For those of you who know Rachel, I'm sure you have a good visual... feel free to pause a moment and laugh your butt off.

Okay, moving on.... I decided to go back to the scene of the crime, mainly to check to see if someone grew a brain and returned my bag to the Church office, I had no luck though. :o(
So, I went out to the car and made the 911 call, which by the way, felt very odd to be calling 911. It's the fear factor your parents drill in you, you know, when your a kid and for some reason pushing random numbers into the phone just seemed like such fun. ( Speaking of which, I wonder how that kid's doing in Thailand I spoke to once, such a nice person... I think, I mean I don't know what he said, but it sounded heartfelt.) Anyway, every kid wants to call 911, so you call it, then your mom walks in and out of fear you drop the phone and pretend to have been picking your nose or something. Then, 15 minutes later you've got S.W.A.T. busting out your windows because there's been a 911 rep on the line all that time, overheard you playing cowboys and Indians with your imaginary friend and though your house had been invaded by the mafia.

The officer I spoke to took my information down on a piece of notebook paper, and I have got to tell you, I figured she'd use it later as a wrapper for your used gum. I had printed out the IP Address information from my website hit but when I showed it to her she didn't seem nearly as excited about it as I did. Just to give you a visual of how this encounter went, the 911 call took 8 mins, my time giving the officer my information and also including her 3 personal cell phone calls took maybe 5 mins.

During the events of the day, I had completely forgotten I had made a Portrait session appointment for 2:30 in LaFayette, 45 mins north of Rome. My 911 call happened at 2:38, luckily they were really cool about it. I was a tad embarrassed, as you can imagine, especially since it didn't dawn on my until she called me on my cell phone. After the police took my report I hauled butt back to LaFayette only to find them sitting in the blazing hot sun waiting on me. Yet another cherry on top on my shitty sundae. The portrait session went pretty good though, I got some cute stuff judging by my quick look through and I'm sure you'll see more of these later on. On the image you see here, Chase, who is nearly 2, was popping bubbles, which was the only thing we could come up with to make this kid smile, and it still took amazing effort.

Tipping hat to Karma...

CSI Ledford: Case Update

CSI Ledford: Investigator # 62666

Case Information:
  • Victim Name: Kandice Ledford , Georgia
  • theft Location: St. Peter's Church. Rome, Georgia
  • Description of item(s) taken: Nikon 24mm lens, Nikon 28-70mm lens, Sigma 70-300mm lens, Nikon SB-80 flash, Navy Bag ( Bessler) containing misc contents such as filters, flash cards, data, etc..
  • Total replacement value $1624.98

Case Notes: Breakthrough with the camera bag theft, traumatized victim reports that business cards were left in the missing bag, cards including website address. After investigating one such http://www.ledfordphotography.com/ I discovered that website contains tracking information provided by statcounter.com, recording all internet traffic onto website.

note: Victim also report that no cards were handed out during the course of the day and that no company information was verbally given to any person(s) during the course of the day.

After looking though the records of this internet tracker, I have found that on the night of Sept. 18, 2005 at 9:24pm a hit was made with no referring link* from Rome, GA, therefore leaving a PC Fingerprint of sorts. This Fingerprint gave us the suspects IP Address, which are unique to every PC. Also found was the suspects service provider, Comcast Communications.

note: * no referring link meanings that suspect would have had to phyically type web address into interest engine in order to access this information.

note: Victim verifies that prior to this web hit, no web traffic had ever before came from Rome, Ga with no referring link.

Information is being given to the detective in charge of this case, which should lead us to the suspects exact location and idenity. This information should merit a warrant.

Case Pending

Karma or Torture?

This is an image from the wedding I shot in Rome, Ga yesterday. The groom and groomsmen all wore kilts - a true Irish wedding, even though the groom was from sweden. What some people will do for love!

Even though it was an Irish wedding, the luck of the Irish was not with me yesterday. Someone stold my camera bag with my 3 lens ( one of which I just bought and had only used 3 times ) my flash ( the only one I owned ) some memory cards, expensive filters, some cash, 6 extra camera batteries ( all costing 50 bucks each ) plus some odds and ends. The total amount was somewhere between 800 - 1000 bucks. Of course I had no camera insurance, which was completely my fault because I just kept meaning to call and get it added to my policy but never did. Something that would've taken me 15 mins of my time and 10 bucks a month!!!! I'm not at all happy, as you can imagine.

I called the police dept. this morning to file a report and of course they dont work on the weekends. Doesn't that make you feel safer? Let's all go to Floyd County, Ga and rob a bank, shall we? So, at 8am Monday morning I'm going to be sitting at the police dept., granted I know they cant do much, but hopefully they can fax the pawn shops and they'll be a chance I can get it back. I'm not holding my breath or anything, I've come to terms with the reality of this matter, I just can't believe this actually happened. I can't believe I'm a theif victim!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's amazingly shocking just how amazingly shocked I am. I've been sick since I got home last night! I did get a few hours sleep, when I woke up the thought immediately came back to me and I had hope for a split second that it was all just a dream. I laid there for a few minutes getting up the nerve to look over at the usual shot where my camera bag sits, hoping it would be there.... it was not, it wasnt just a dream!

Less than a month ago my beloved Todd ( my digital d100 camera ) broke in the middle of a wedding, yesterday my bag was stolen... is this a sign? Actually in the larger view of things, this has been a horrible year.... 1st my brake pad falls off my car in the middle of downtown Atlanta traffic, nearly killing me, not to mention that it cost $1000.00 to repair ( ON MY WAY TO A WEDDING) ! 2nd my Laptop just dies after 2 years of use, and of course without insurance or warrenty, a new one was of course $1200.00 at best buy (WHILE WORKING ON IMAGES FROM A WEDDING) . 3rd my poor Todd breaks ( WHILE SHOOTING A WEDDING) and will cost 500.00 to repair ( which I do not have ) and 4th my camera bag is stolen, ( WHILE SHOOTING A WEDDING) which will cost $1000.00 to replace it all.

I'm going to ask, flat out, what I ever did to deserve this??? When you look at it, I'm a good person, I pay my taxes, I try to help others who need it, I open doors for people who rarely ever say "thank you", but I take it with a smile, I dont go out and party and hang out with the "bad crowd", I dont do drugs, I dont steal & cheat... basically I'm a good person... so, WHY in all that is good and holy do these kinds of things happen to me, in a row, within months of eachother???? And, notice all bad things have a Wedding relation... is this a sign I shouldnt be doing what I'm doing? If it is, couldnt the one trying to make this point just send me a letter... I'll even sign COD for the postage costs, that would be so much cheaper and less stressful!!! I havent really had a reaction to anything that has happened to me lately... last night was the last straw on the pile. The next thing that happens, no matter how small it may seem, I vow to you, that I am going to flip out! I've reached my limit of just how much I can take... friends theres an excellent possibility you could be visiting me in the crazy house, or prison.. depending on the case that finally drives the nail through the skin!

I can now say that I will work cheap if you need pictures, odd jobs, like painting, mowing or gardening... appling to McDonalds seems like the thing to do, considering I was broke before yesterday... there is absolutely no way I can afford to replace any of the stuff that was stolen... I, my friends, am up a creek, without a paddle, a life vest, and am slowly sinking, due to this hole in my boat!

Feel the Burn

Day 8 of my new healthy lifestyle. My fitness goal today was to workout 1 hour - I worked out twice, the 1st was 1 hr and 38 minute with 1 1/2 miles fast walk/jogging followed by some weight lifting for toning, 75 ab crunches, & 15 mins of stretching. This afternoon I walked another 1/2 mile followed by 3 sets of 20 squats and 2 sets of 10 lunges which added another 1/2 hr to my time today bringing my total time to 2 hrs 8 mins. I gotta tell ya, Im pooped, I feel great though. Funny how the chemicals in the body work, you feel tired and crapped out when you do nothing, you workout a few hrs a day and even though you're sore and stretched to your limits, you feel better, happier and more energized.

I drank my goal of water today too... (2) 1.5 liter bottles of water. And because it was cold water, I burned extra calories because my body had to produce heat to bring it to the body temperture of 98 degrees. I actually drank over my goal, I had a regular sized bottle of water this afternoon with dinner. :o)

Wednesday I went to Chattanooga and shopped for new shoes to workout in, I found 2 new pair of New Balance which i'm still not use to yet. They're killing my feet because I havent gotten them broken into yet. My right calf muscle and knee are hurtin like a mo, I'm pretty sure I twisted my knee on a rock walking yesterday - Good Times. My 1st official injury, but I didnt let it sideline me, I did do some extra leg stretching so maybe it'll ease up in a day or two.

Tomorrow I have a Wedding to shoot in Rome, Ga - I look forward to someday saying " Tomorrow I have a Wedding to shoot in Rome, Italy" but until then, this will have to do. I have to be there at 12:30, it's a Church wedding and I really hope it wont take all blooming day. I'd like to get home by 7 or 8 instead of the usually 11 or 12 in the morning... or later. I'll be thrilled when I FINALLY win the lottery - I can just jet all over the world taking pictures for fun, but dont worry, I'll still update my blog so you all can see all of beautiful places I visit and buy and the breathtaking scenes from the back of my yacht. Awwww - that'll be the day!!

Colorful Sugar High

Today I've edited and published more pages to my website and am currently working on some more. I need to find me a good looking family for some family portraits to add to the website. So, if you're reading this and the sight of you doesnt make people run with fear, I'd be willing to do your family portraits super cheap. :o)

I started making a "to-do" list last night but I ran out of paper, which must mean I need to get busy. I've been trying to think up a creative unique way of advertising holiday family portraits for this coming fall, have any? Another big priority is getting local advertising for wedding photography in local businesses. I'd love to be able to work on a local basis, instead of having all my work coming from Atlanta and beyond. I also need to be getting stuff ready for a local art show, well, 3 actually. One of those being at the Chattanooga Nature Center on Sept 22. 05, available for viewing on Sept 24-Nov 30th. Another being an Art show held on Lookout Mtn on Oct 8 & 9 of 05, and the third being an art exhibit at Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. So, if your looking for great Christmas gifts, why not purchase a tons of my art prints... there matted, some are framed and I'll even autograph it for you! What a Deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sucker

Whirly pops and froggy gigs... or something like that. I've done nothing of great interest today. I did leave the house for a trip to the walmart. Going to the walmart is never fun as they always get all your money. I'm waiting on the day to cool before I continue my walking and sweatin to the oldies. So far I've worked out every single afternoon this week, beginning with a 1/2 hr, and I'm already up to an hour long workout.

I find it funny that this workout post accompanies a lollipop photograph. Kinda makes my teeth hurt looking at it though. I shot this at the Chattanooga Choo Choo when I took my neice Summer there for her photo shoot. Speaking of those, when I first looked at them I thought I had gotten nothing worth using, then after a second look and a bunch of editing, I've decided I got some really great stuff. If you'd like to see them all, you can go to www.knledford.smugmug.com and take a look through the Portrait photographs.

Remembering

Main Street, originally uploaded by knledford.

Looking back 9.11.01: I was living in Murfreesboro, TN at the time, attending college at MTSU. My usual routine of the morning was to be ready for my day by 9 am so that I could spend that hour watching the Golden Girls on Lifetime while reading over some notes for class, then heading off to Math, my worst subject. As alway, I sat down on my couch, half glancing at my English Lit notes, as they were just as boring as always, and laughing at another Rose/Sophia debacule. Shortly after 9 my phone rang, my sister was calling from Ga to tell me I should change the channel, something important was happening in NYC. Before I could do that however, loud horns rang from outside and the channel switched to the news. In that split second, our whole world changed, the United States became a reachable target, lives were altered and ended, and apart of every single american died, if only just alittle inside.

Workout - Sleep - Repeat

I've been working out this week and already feel better than I have in a long while. Back in the day I was a workout freak with kick boxing, mountain biking 12 miles 6 days a week, walking 4 miles 7 days a week along with 1 1/2 hours of various exercises 7 days a week. I ate 1200 calories and as you can imagine was in great shape. A combination of PCOS and laziness got in the way and all my hard work was shot to heck. I've tried a few times to get back into the game but just never really had the "want to" inside. Something about this week, I woke up one morning and knew I was ready to get my life back. I'm starting out slow with walking and strength training, only 30-45 mins a day for now. I would like to work up to a 1 hour workout along with a 1 hour bike ride 4-7 days a week. I'm determained to make my career as a wedding photographer work this go around, instead of slacking off when things were getting good. My goal, one year from now, is to be healthy and still have the will to maintain it, and have every Saturday of 2007 booked with good paying weddings. Between now and then, you can read about the smallest and largest of steps... right here... in the absense of my mind.

Towards the Light

This image reminds me of a scene from the 1940's, except for the arcade sign of course. She looks so small and fragile in this photograph, yet she thinks she's 10 feet tall and wise as can be. 'She' being my neice, Summer, who turned 4 years old last month.

Tomorrow I'm going to see how many places I can visit and how many cards I can pass out in an attempt to start booking the 2006 wedding season. If I could pick up a few 2005's you wouldnt hear me complaining any. Thus far I've had 596 web views but havent booked anything yet, then again, the wedding season officially begins on Labor Day so I hope to be busy with interviews soon.

On a local note, Chattanooga and surrounding areas are being flooded with the lucky ones from New Orleans and Mississippi. Tons of good people here was volunteering there time, there services and there homes. I wish I was in a situation to help out, winning the lotto is taking much longer than I thought!

Too Sweet

Today I took my neice to the Chattanooga Choo Choo for some photographs. Apparently the timing was all wrong, light wise and mood wise. I didnt get as much as I wanted because by the time we got there, her nap time arrived and I found myself in the presense of a monster. I did get a few cute photos all the same, this being one of them. I had been wanting to do pictures of her at the choo choo for some time now and am just now getting around to it. The fountain you see in this photograph, one of the prettiest there, right behind this fountain you could see all the roses bloomed the last time I was there and thought that would make a cute shot. Well, maybe a 1/2 hr before we got there today, the yard crew cut the tops from all those rose bushes.... not the ones in other parts, just, of course, the ones I was planning on using. FIGURES! Anyway, if anyone wants some childrens pictures at the choo choo, you'd best be calling before the roses are all gone! And if you didnt copy it down, you can go back a few weeks and get my TEL. # for an appointment. LOL

Calling your bluff

Sunday turned out to be a showdown at the O.K. Granny's House with a good ole fashion game of Rummy. Players included myself of course, my mother and my grandmother. I spent most of the game taking pictures, such as this one, and still lost by only 24 points. Which I think says alot of there playing ability. :o)

Today I play on doing nothing much. I have a half a house full of junk for eBay that I'm going to see if I can get listed and out of the way. And I also have some stuff to box up to mail, including my wedding album, which I was suppose to mail last week and completely forgot about it until last night. Lovely isnt it! Welp, wish me luck and have a good holiday!

Blooming Nutters

Nothing new going on in my world, whats going on in yours? 10 points to the one with the winning guess as to who sang that song.

Anyway, last night I went to a Rodeo, it's been about 10 years since I've been to a Rodeo and from what I saw last night, hadnt missed a lot. I didnt take my camera, I had visions of dust flying into it and costing me, oh, say 411.88 or so.

The photo here was taken at the Chattanooga Nature Center, I just got this print from photoworks.com and I must say, I'm extremely impressed with there services and printing. The color range is excellent! I would highly recommend them to anyone & everyone. They have great prices too, they have tons of sales and specials, and even when they dont, 4x6's are 0.19 ea. Seeing you can order them from the comfort of your house while wearing your p.j.'s is a major plus and best of all, delievered right to your door... you can't beat that!

A Powerful Image

I think this photo speaks of the thoughts of the thousands of children & adults suffering through the true hell that must live in New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama tonight. This image was taken in the French Quarter store front window on Canal Street.

To all of us at home safe with running water and food in our belly with the will and ability to give alittle to those without such riches, please go to www.redcross.org or call 1-800-HELP-NOW to donate alittle or alot for your fellow man and american.

The Floating City

An image of a storm coming as seen over the rooftops of this New Orleans French Quarter. I took this photo 2 years ago when I visited the great city of New Orleans, and now as we all know, it's feet below water with people dying in the streets while waiting on help, all thanks to mother nature's rath.

Watching the scenes on tv doesnt really make it real, it almost seems like a movie unfold. Makes me think of images you see from another country. I can tell you, if you've never been to New Orleans, it's a very unique place all to itself. It wasnt the nicest of places when I visited in 2003, now, factory in a hurricane, 103 degree heat, lack of food & water, bathrooms, homes, beds, sleep, money, comfort, safety, peace of mind, and all rays of hope and you've truely got the ingredients of Hell on earth. To all those involved, I pray for cloudy skies, cool breezes, large buses, endless supplies of food and the energy to survive it.
